When ottomans re-conquered anatolia, they could(cid:374)(cid:859)t let their allies sell out to the next invader. Replaced armies with civil service- staffed (cid:271)(cid:455) sla(cid:448)es, (cid:272)ould(cid:374)(cid:859)t (cid:271)e dislo(cid:455)al. Disloyal subjects were difficult to execute (subject to islam law)- used converts to islam who were technically slaves to sultans. Elite group of soldiers- originally christian boys from balkans, made legal slaves of sultans (allowed to punish them without issues w law)
