HLTHAGE 1CC3 Lecture 5: Related Disorders
Document Summary
Body dysmorphic disorder: fixates over a certain aspect of their body. Ssd: at least 1 chronic somatic symptom causing excessive preoccupation, although a person may go to healthcare services a lot, they don"t feel any better or at ease. Who makes the call on what"s okay to stress over your health: symptoms are usually medically unexplained, but excessive worry about an explainable symptom might be enough to be diagnosed. E. g. you get cancer and worry about one of the symptoms and don"t feel comfort when a doctor explains it you can be diagnosed with ssd. May feel pain more acutely but it"s a phenomenon in the mind you can only compare it to yourself: general anxiety about getting sick, obsessively research on the subject they"re worried about, problematic for everyday life. Doesn"t have to be medically explained: depends on psychiatrist"s judgment if the thoughts are excessive .
