When we think of mental illness, its connected to dysfunction. A politician doing this has more consequences than a student doing it. It harms a persons position in society. We"re encourage to imagine disorders as invaders, things that happen to us, separated from us. But if we define disorder by our thoughts, behavior, feelings, it"s what we are. Started in bradley home in rhode island orphanage. They had to undergo spinal taps and to avoid headaches after spinal tabs, children were given benzedrine. Staff noticed children had easier time focusing and behaving in class.
