Evolution of continuing care: a system of service delivery; that there is a continuation of different types of care depe(cid:374)di(cid:374)g o(cid:374) people"s (cid:374)eeds; differe(cid:374)t for ea(cid:272)h pro(cid:448)i(cid:374)(cid:272)e. Components of continuing care: residential services- anywhere people would live that is not their actual home; e. g. long term care, retirement homes, other health and social services e. g. meals on wheels, friendly visits. Adult day programs: different jurisdictions attach different meanings to continuing care, complex system of services. Prior to 1970s: background of care is in acute care- most provided by charitable organizations e. g. st. Terminology: continuing care, continuum of care, community care, long term care, can receive long term care at home so this is where the confusion lies. Institutions can also provide community care: lines are not divided- there is a lot of overlapping, there is confusion and complexity about where to go. Older adults would say yes but service provides would say social insurance is a good idea.
