Document Summary

Nervous system and endocrine system work together to regulate the activities of the other body systems. Nervous system uses neurons to deliver signals it is organized to respond rapidly to stimuli. The endocrine system is mainly composed of glands which secrete hormones. Hormones are carried by the blood stream to target cells it takes time to deliver hormones to ells and it takes time for the cells to respond however the endocrine system is longer lasting. It"s organized for a slow but prolonged response. Exocrine glands have ducts and secrete their products into these ducts eg. saliva is delivered to the mouth by the ducts of the salivary glands. Endocrine glands secrete their products into the bloodstream. Only target cells can respond to a hormone the target cell must have a receptor protein for a specific hormone for it to respond. Both the nervous system and endocrine system make use of these mechanisms.
