Document Summary

Join together these spinal levels to form peripheral nerves. Radial innervates most extensors of forearm and hand. Each spinal level controls flexor and extensor compartments (each have two components) In every ventral horn there are two functional groups of axons. Purpose is to join together at least two spinal levels and separation of anterior flexor and posterior extensor divisions. Long thoracic nerve innervates attachment of ribs (serratus anterior) Pectoral nerve innervates pectoral nerve, attaches pectoral girdle to axial skeleton. Also crosses elbow joint to innervate skin on lateral aspect of forearm. Another branch supplies muscle of hand and thenar eminence. Crosses the wrist and interphalangeal joint supplying skin on thumb side of ventral surface of hand. Gives branches to ulnar side of muscles in forearm. Goes into hand to supply intrinsic flexors, except for muscles of thenar eminence. Goes behind neck of humerus to innervate deltoid muscle. Then becomes superficial cutaneous nerve supplying skin on lateral aspect of shoulder.
