KINESIOL 2G03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 24: Exposure Therapy, Virtual Reality, Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
Self-control is a criical factor in determining resiliency. The capacity for altering one"s own responses, especially to bring them into line with standards such as ideals, values, morals and social expectaions and to support the pursuit of long term goals. Bring children into a lab, give them a marshmallow and tell them if they wait they can have another. Children who pass the test show good regulaion. As adults, low delayers display less frontal acivity when inhibiing a response. The no-go trials (inhibiing response) inhibit desire to eat marshmallows. The individuals who are able to wait are high delayers, have high acivaion in the frontal cortex in comparison to low delayers. Individuals who are high delayers as adults are sill able to inhibit their responses because their frontal cortex works beter for them, more acivated when needed to inhibit a response. Children who were able to delay graiicaion grew up to be more successful.
