LABRST 1A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Canadian Labour Congress
Document Summary
Union and employer would sit at the bargaining table and work out a contract. Once you have a collective agreement, that is the main thing your union will do until the end of the contract, you do not go against the agreement or walkout on the job. Then, it was seen if workers get higher wages, they spend more money. If you were an unskilled industrial worker, you were considered to be poor. By the end of 1950"s, family started to have 2 cars which was a massive change. Family"s had cars and more leisure time, less working, making good money. No political striking or other types of strikes. Most of the people wanting to work in that system are trained. Related workers not being able to understand collective agreements and their complicated labour terms is workers control. Workers control talks about wages, bene ts and seniority. Biggest problem is that the work is backward, lots of technology.
