MEDRADSC 2I03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Brachial Plexus, Lumbar Vertebrae, Vertebra
Document Summary
When numbering vertebrae, look for the pedicles ( eyes of the owl ) Sacral vertebrae is not as flared as it should be. If the transition is complete there will be 6 lumbar vertebrae. See large dipping of the sacral crest, normally it is relatively flat. Should be 5 lumbar vertebrae, but looks like there are 6. Transverse process of l5 may be enlarged & fused w sacrum. Lumbar vertebrae is starting to flare like the sacrum. There may be low back pain associated w both deformities. C7 may have rib(s) attached to its transverse process(es) Ribs may be short or long enough to articulate w 1st rib. May be asymptomatic or may impinge on brachial plexus & subclavian artery. Causes aches & numbness/pins & needles in arm(s) They may never know they have it, unless they raise their arms (like when driving); puts extra pressure on the brachial plexus causing pain.
