Why is it effective: familiarity, security, empowering, reassurance, confidence (acknowledging ability), memory evoking, stimulate dialogue/relationships. Memory formation: easier due to music structure, doesn"t take long to learn a new song. Temporal chunking principles in non-musical memory processes. Music structures aba etc: familiar songs usually have structure. How powerful a melody is in learning and forming our memories, stuck in there, like a tattoo in your brain once you"ve learned something to a melody, would have to unlearn it. Jingles are powerful: creates familiarity, certain feelings. Is this music therapy: no, it"s wonderful and has therapeutic value but it"s not music therapy because there"s no interaction between client and therapist.
