NURSING 2LA2 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Childhood Obesity, Insulin Resistance, Low-Density Lipoprotein
Document Summary
Prevalence of obesity is so high that the world health organization (or who) and the centers for. Disease control and prevention (or cdc) now refer to the obesity epidemic. The wo(cid:396)ld wat(cid:272)h i(cid:374)stitute (cid:396)eleased a (cid:396)epo(cid:396)t i(cid:374) the (cid:455)ea(cid:396) (cid:1006)(cid:1004)(cid:1004)(cid:1004) stati(cid:374)g (cid:862)fo(cid:396) the fi(cid:396)st ti(cid:373)e i(cid:374) hu(cid:373)a(cid:374) history, the number of overweight people rivals the (cid:374)u(cid:373)(cid:271)e(cid:396) of u(cid:374)de(cid:396)(cid:449)eight people(cid:863) Even more concerning than the fact that one third of us adults are considered obese, is that rates of childhood obesity have tripled since 1980 in the us. This same trend is occurring globally; according to the who (cid:862)(cid:1006)(cid:1006) (cid:373)illio(cid:374) (cid:272)hild(cid:396)e(cid:374) u(cid:374)de(cid:396) fi(cid:448)e a(cid:396)e esti(cid:373)ated to (cid:271)e o(cid:448)e(cid:396)(cid:449)eight (cid:449)o(cid:396)ld(cid:449)ide(cid:863). This is pretty frightening news considering that we as a society are used to ever-lengthening lifespans because of better living conditions and medical advances. Now there is even talk of a double cohort or cardiovascular patients.
