Document Summary
Lecture 11- robert nozick: anarchy state and utopia. Anarchy, state and utopia (1974) his book came out a few years after rawls" book. Broader approach to asking questions about justice and answering them. Divides periods of justice between ones that are patterned and ones that are non- libertarianism patterned. Nozick contrasts with rawls" because he thinks when citizens become conformed, really all the government can do is de-form society (make it worse / less than it was before) Nozick all government intervention impedes people"s lives and weakens society. Nozick: avoid government intrusion because it gets in between people and their liberty. A political philosophy that prioritizes individual liberty, and seeks to maximize the scope of individual freedoms and minimize the size and scope of government. Libertarians prize individual freedom and see it as such an immense an important value: therefore, we must keep the government small and unobtrusive from citizen"s lives.
