Stanley milgram"s (1963) - investigating the obedience to authority. He told the subject that the experiment studies the punishment on learning. Subject is the teacher, and the learner is an actor(confederate) The confederate mentions that he has a heart condition, and is connected to a shock electrodes. The subject is to give the learner an electric shock each incorrect answer and with each subsequent error, the electric progressively give a higher shock along the control panel. The experimenter keep saying continue even if the learner is exhibiting dangerous signs. 65% of all subjects continue the experiment. Very strong tendency of obedience to authority, even if this power is limited. People does not always have an accurate judgement on how you would behave in a given situation. Prestige of the facility: rundown office 65% to 50% Experimenter leave the room obedience dropped even more. Change proximity of teacher and learner lower obedience.
