PSYCH 1X03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Reinforcement, Classical Conditioning, Table Tennis
Document Summary
Unit 1: introduction: classical conditioning: process by which organisms learn the contingencies between biologically important stimuli, reflexive type of learning (absence of overt training - simply presenting together two biologically important stimuli leads to their association) Instrumental conditioning involves explicit training between voluntary behaviors and their consequences. Instrumental conditioning is about learning the contingency between behaviors and consequences. Unit 2: instrumental conditioning: graph indicates decreasing number of behaviors in relation to the number of increasing successful trials. Stamping in and stamping out leads to refinement and the organism learns the contingency between specific behaviors of rope pulling and specific behaviors of the consequence of reward. Law of effect: behaviors with positive consequences are stamped in and performed more frequently: behaviors producing unpleasant effects will be stamped out and performed less frequently. Floor of one side delivers shock: can be removed by moving to other side.
