Genes and environment work together and affect one another: epigenetics -> the environment can alter your genes, environmental experiences can affect your genes which can be passed on. Genotype and phenotype parents: genotype -> your set of genes that you have inherited from your, phenotype -> how you express your genotype, observable, e. g. , height, e. g. , psychiatric disorders, e. g. , intelligence measurable genotypes. Is there a gene for attribute x: polygenic (aka multigenic) inheritance, there is no one gene that tells us if x is going to be a certain. Can we disentangle the effects of genes and environment on way multigenetic traits: three main methods, adoption studies. Access to the: adopted child, biological mother, biological father, adoptive mother & father. Adoptive parents are environment, biological parents are biological. Adopted child in greater relation to biological mother. Adoptive moms have a lesser impact on child than biological: family studies. As the genetic percentage increase, so does the risk of being schizophrenic.
