Are the media demonstrably bad for children: television, video games. Issues in research on effects of media: random assignment to violent programing or extensive video gaming, pre-existing groups. Did research on interventions and tasks that kids could do at preschool age and found that they were most prepared when they did these tasks. Wanted to get this to all kids in low income families and the result was. Sesame street (all the tasks and messages are part of morrisett"s interventions: 50% of children at preschool age watched it in its first year of airing. Ability to form positive relationships with people. Same for shows like mister rogers" neighborhood: has a positive impact on kids believing it"s good to share, be kind; shows that target racism makes kids more tolerant and accepting. Kids exposed to good shows=good, but the more tv thy watch, the worse off they are. Children watching more than 30 hours of tv/week = worse marks in school.
