First described in 1902 by dr. george still, english physician. Now most researched of all childhood disorder: ~2700 journal articles or chapters form 2001-2005 alone. Changes in name over the years: 1960s: minimal brain dysfunction (mbd, 1970s: attention deficit disorder (add); +h or h for presence of hyperactivity, 1980s add plus adhd for those w/hyperactivity. Dsm-iv (1994) and dsm-5 used adhd for all cases; 3 subtypes. Is excessively active physically: constantly moving, climbing, running, fidgeting (even when sitting, often talks excessively, blurts our answers before questions have been asked, trouble waiting turn, butts into conversations, games or other activities inappropriately. Social clumsiness: egocentric, tactless, unaware of image, insensitive to convention, over-talkative, difficulty reading facial expression, aggressive tendencies, lack of judgment, poor understanding of group dynamics.
