Everything that is currently or potentially available to consciousness: things that can easily be brought into consciousness, contribute to individual"s development. The sole motive for all human behaviour. Organismic valuing system: inner sense of what is right for us inner compass, tendency to approach opportunities for actualizing, reject situations inconsistent with actualizing. What we identify as who we are: not present at birth but develops over time. The self will always develop but the direction in which it develops di ers. In order to develop in the right direction we need unconditional positive regard: unconditional positive regard love the sinner, hate the sin. The behaviour is bad, not the person. Many people do not experience unconditional positive regard people evaluate others: conditional positiive regard. Loving individuals under certain conditions: child develops conditions of worth some behaviours will lead to love being taken away. These external conditions of worth become internalized and form the ideal self.
