Document Summary

Ashton and leigh: new hexaco model same as the big five with the addition of one more factor. Many of the factor analytic trait theories began with intercorrelated trait descriptions. Some models yield six traits additional one is honesty-humility. Cluster of traits such as honesty, sincerity, modesty, fair-mindedness. However, theorists do not really believe in development. Cannot be applied in the clinical setting (do not believe it can be modified or learned) Costa and mccrae: tried to use this model to explain personality disorders did not work well. Meant for things to be orthogonal, but relationships exist. Mischel and bandura: some social learning variables operate unconsciously. No relation between traits and thoughts/cognitions in this model. But, they cannot make better predictions about what people are going to do. Because trait theories try to explain too much. Ask people yes/no questions about their tendencies and habits.
