Astereognosis: inability to recognize an object by touch. Stimultaneous extinction: inability to perceive multiple stimuli of the same type simultaneously. Test for tactile perception of objects: assessing astereognosis. Another version: blindfold patient, matching exercise by touch: match the shape that is felt by one hand with the same shape that is felt by the other hand. Tells us the extent to which astereognosis might be occurring test for the occurrence of simultaneous extinction: If two different objects: patient can see both of them in their visual fields. If two same objects: person with se can only see one object. Se: inability to perceive multiple stimuli of the same type at the same time. But: if you were to show the patient two different versions of the same object (fork example above), patient still only sees object in one visual field.
