She played an important role of support in several ways. Homemaker and mother, but she was also a collaborator and editor for some of his works. First world war started in 1914 and durkheim was at the height of his career at this point. He was a patriotic frenchman and contributed to the war effort. He did research and went to work for french government committees that were publishing studies and other documents connected to the war. His son died in 1916 fighting the war, durkheim never fully recovered from this. He had failing health which led to his death, causing his work to slow. Had a stroke and died in 1917 at the age of 59. They are external and collective ways society shapes, structures and constrains our behaviour. Institutions ( the economy, politics, etc); beliefs, practices, norms. Statistical facts are different (unemployment rates and birth rates) they can act or become social facts.
