All exps are necessary b/c the neophyte must: - learn for subject material ie. the patient. Docs learn to maintain themselves/distant from patients. Development of a professional self: professionalization important b/c: (i) promotes image of the neophyte as having worked to achieve special competence: - special status & role is earned.
