Document Summary

Topic 5: history of petroleum oil and crude oil industry. Various systems used to process units in refineries. Hydrogen sulfide is very poisonous the oil. Doesn"t include usual refinery facilities providing utilities such as steam, cooling water, and electric power and storage tanks. Middle distillates: kerosene, automotive and rail road diesel fuels, residential heating. Light distillates: liquid petroleum, gasoline, heavy naphtha fuel, other light fuel oils. Sulphur in this case if over 8% will be more odourless but very dangerous. It"s good that you can smell it bc then you will know and be more aware of it. Operates 6 coal mines that supply feed stock for secunda and sasolburg. Uses fischer-tropsch process: natural gas combined w/ o2 for form syngas = very waxy and this syncrude is cracked down to produce product. Difficult start because: permits and approvals, configuration, feedstock supply (how do you bring it"/ by ship, truck, train etc, should produce between 250-500,000 barrels per day.
