Topic 1: the challenging role of the global manager. Examples of multinational companies: sun life, bombardier, etc. We basically need cross-cultural management because we interact with people from different cultures. Employees, customers, suppliers, partners, owners, training/consulting, assignments etc. can all be international. Nutella has ingredients imported and have factories/offices based in different countries. Work environment (dynamic and complex) can have multiple types such as downsizing, privatization, team-based management, and migrants changing workforce composition. It: create new opportunities for interaction (internet of things/portable devices + other apps). Certain technologies are popular amongst a particular demographic, cultures. In the global environment, legal, political and economics are largely observable. But for cultural is largely invisible since it"s hard to understand. Norms: how we do things around here, organizational and societal. **these are used more heavily in some parts of the world and understanding these differences will help with the adaptation.
