Both minority and majority groups can be targets of stereotyping and prejudice. Stereotypes are held most often for social groups (racial and ethnic) Many aspects of one"s identity are vulnerable to prejudice: gender, sexual preferences, religion weight age, profession, hobbies. Modern prejudice: people may hide their prejudices to fit in with social norms. Therefore, methods of measuring prejudice must be subtle. Iat: implicit association test (responding to words or pictures on the computer and their response times reveal hidden prejudices. Implicit stereotypes: attitudes that people are not willing to report or be explicit about, namely prejudices. People who are not willing to blatantly admit to being prejudice may agree with a statement rejecting more refugee admissions, or something stating that minorities are getting to bossy with their push for special rights. Prejudice: a hostile negative attitude toward people in a distinguishable group based solely on their membership in that group.
