Human thinking is not natural or genetic. What differentiates humans from animals is the ability to change micro structures and change large social structures. Cultural universals: practices that are found in every known culture (ex. cooking, dancing, funeral ceremonies, gift-giving, language, etc. ) There are many definitions for culture: language, economy, religion, policies, social institutions, class values, status, attitudes, manners, customs, material items, aesthetics, and education. Functionalism: culture = integrative role in society.
