Looking at race, we can believe we are completely different species. Attributes that are placed on individuals and groups on the basis of race. You belong to a certain race, therefore you have certain attributes. Example: black kids are more prone to committing crimes, muslims/arabs are all terrorists. You can trace historically back to how ethnicities began. Prejudice > prejudgement of an individual or group without ever interacting with them. Based on irrational fear of a race or ethnicity. Discrimination > resources are limited to individuals and groups that belong to certain races and ethnicities. Example: don"t hire someone just because of their race or ethnicity. Inter-ethnic racial relations: segregation - limited to no interactions between different races in society. Jim crowe law -official policy in the us that different races would be segregated: separation - a minority group separates itself from the dominate group. Quebec wanting to separate from canada: assimilation - melting pot (u. s. model)
