Under british law a disorderly house is any establishment where the inhabitants cause a public nuisance. Depending on time/place aka whore houses, cat houses/ strumpet houses. Way less brothels than 100 years ago. Now sex clubs are legitimate for both homo and hetero. Although always illegal in western societies they were tolerated by law, generally ignored. At times consequences of not having them outweighed having them. In times where there were strong double standards and large groups of single men, brothels thrived. Men in public labor while wife in private sphere of household, husband goesto brothel for sex. Victorian times sexes are in different spheres. If girl was taken advantage of, was said to be her fault, reputation falls. Once married, spent a lot of time pregnant (big families) o men not to bother wife for sex so goes to brothel o women not sexual objects just household beings. Sacred prostitutes sat at temples (mentioned in old testament).
