No sudden, unexpected new problems (like a meteorite, disease pandemics, complete economic collapse, etc. : the models are good enough. Assumption that we basically know how things work and can basically use models to forecast future trends. Four forces through the cow: demographics. There is a very strong relationship between meat consumption and demographic change. As countries become more developed and incomes rise, consumption patterns shift away from vegetables and grains to meat. Demographic change drives change in resources growing demand: growing demand.
