The nervous system is the nervous system responsible for short term, fast-acting bodily changes but The endocrine system is responsible for slow-acting responses for a longer duration The endocrine system is regulated by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland which secretes hormones related to: thyroid (tsh) Produces oxytocin, produces labour contractions, lactation, and water absorbing ability of the kidneys (adh) The adrenal glands are composed of the adrenal medulla and the adrenal cortex: Adrenal medulla secretes the catecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine. Adrenal cortex secretes steroids eg. acth (secreted by the pituitary gland) cause the secretion of corticosteroids by the adrenal cortex. The following are some of the disorders of the endocrine system: Diabetes chronic endocrine disorder in which the body is unable to manufacture or properly use insulin type 1: the pancreas doesn"t produce enough insulin type 2: body doesn"t properly use insulin. Hypothyroidism abnormally low tsh production; fatigue, weight gain, depression, etc.
