Structures that make up the system includes; nose, nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, a series of tubes that function as air passageway including: trachea, primary bronchi, bronchioles (in lungs) and lungs (and alveoli) Respiratory tract epithelium: rte: ciliated pseudostratified columnar with goblet cells (r. t. e. ) Nose and nasal cavity: primary passageway for air to get into respiratory system: boundaries: posterior to opening to nostrils (external nares) Bone in the posterior portion (upper part is perpendicular plate of ethmoid and lower portion is the vomer) Upper portion of cavity also includes part of frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid bone. Floor is the palate, separating the nasal and oral cavities. Front part of palate is hard (has a core of bone) Posterior part of palate is the soft palate (core of skeletal muscle)
