Netherlands become a hot bed of communication for north and south and even east and west, they are merchants they have a good solid banking system and success of the country is hot in the early 15th c. Paintings coming from the north are sensuous and very vibrant in colour, very eye-catching. Existing and sight are linked at this time, eyes were very imp in paintings of this time. This approach to sight is typical in the early renaissance in the north. Hubert and jan van eyck, adoration of the lamb altarpiece, 1432. Hubert is the older brother, he began this piece. Northern paintings are so appealing bc they use a different medium than the south, they use oil paint instead of tempera. Oil is fluid and allows you to paint in soft brushstrokes, blends colours seamlessly, easily pushing pigments across the surface, easily saturated as well.
