Religion: richard dawkins(cid:495): the god delusion. Contradicts religion: theory of evolution states we descend from apes. Society doesn(cid:495)t want to know because we like the comfort of religion. Creationism is not a conflict with evolution, it is a product of it: hard core darwinism. Humans are a result of purposeless and materialist process that did not have him in mind. No intrinsic meaning to be alive: doesn(cid:495)t matter if religion is true, believing in it has an affect, is believing fallacies making us ill-equipped to respond to present catastrophes. Pleasure-based meaning: intellectual pleasure: curiosity, wondering. Religion is an explanation so it is satisfying. Believing in religion intellectual attractive trait: religion enforced patriarchy and subjugation of women. This was attractive throughout history to men. Attraction to legacy through religion: men want to be god, mind = soul = legacy, transcendence (cid:523)(cid:494)vertical(cid:524) component(cid:524) Our soul lives on beyond our biology. Attraction to organized religion (cid:523)(cid:494)horizontal(cid:495) component(cid:524: sense of community, reinforce belief.
