HIST 211 Lecture 2: Module II
Document Summary
Module ii: world war ii and the rise of the united. This module focuses on the "grand alliance" between the united states and the soviet union (and great britain) during world war ii. It will explore the areas of tension and disagreement that began to emerge between the allies throughout the course of the war. There is no strict chronological boundary between world war ii and the cold war, especially with consideration for the devastating impact of the war on europe and asia. As a result, power vacuums were created and discourse/sharp disagreements over how these vacuums should be filled were present. Sometimes states reconsider their commitment to values or specific ideologies as a result of mortal dangers. In 1941 the soviet union and it"s leader stalin faced great mortal dangers. Winston churchill (prime minister of england) famously said "hitler invaded hell, he would make it at least a favourable reference to the devil in the house of commons. ".
