LLCU 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Semiosphere, Food Presentation, Lasagne
Document Summary
Everything else, no matter how much we could hate the idea of, is edible if it can sustain us. Some things may be taboo (ie. cannibalism and cats), but will work to survive. Food not only a means of survival, but becomes a greater way of experiencing cultures and semiospheres. Cuisine: to a certain extent, will nourish you even though its main scope is not that of survival. Realised they could breed them for more animals: the idea of cooking food. Ie. chimpanzees that break open a coconut with a rock: distinctively human traits: consciously lying, laughing (having a sense of humour), and cooking. Sometimes food became cuisine, not for sustainability or taste/cultural ideals, but for religious matters. Christianity = bread and wine: bread is important, usually the first things to be cooked in many cultures, bread = essence of life, to sustain life.
