Document Summary

Describe how the structure of our visual system affects the way we interpret the world around us. Identify which physical characteristics of light correspond to which psychological characteristics. The wavelength of light is related to its colour. Humans can see light (called visible light) in the 400 . Frequency of light waves is also related the colour. The brightness of the colour depends on the intensity of the light. That is; higher amplitude wavelength are perceived as brighter: describe the visual system from eye to cortex. The cornea is the transparent covering of the eye that brings light into the eye and can focus as a lens. The pupil is the opening of the eye which allows light to hit the retina. Dilation or constriction of the pupil occurs as a result of ciliary muscles moving the iris. It directs light and can change its shape to accommodate for different viewing distances.
