Early modern period = lots of cultural exchange. Fertilization of indian culture from northern islamic culture. Makes persian style popular, show events from reign eg overseeing construction of city. Trained indian artists in persian style, combining his + local traditions. Looks like earlier islamic art but more crowded and colorful (local) Also supported art, art as socio-political strategy. Under mughal, portraiture was a big art form. Attention to detail like persian art, e. g. elaborate clothes, shoes, fine lines and rich colors, miniature = meant to be appreciated close up. 37 architects all from different parts of india. Indian influence: pavilions on minarets = traditional style, marks importance of person/saint, material of pure white marble. Garden like alhambra: islamic, heaven on earth. Interior and exterior are inlaid with precious stones from all over india = proof of unity and participation in labor, material, design, etc. Inlaid decoration represent painting tradition where backgrounds of calligraphy have patterns.
