Week 8 - the metaparadigm: person (diveristy and culture) Describe campinha-bacote"s model of the process of cultural competence; Identify and describe the five components of campinha-bacote"s model of cultural competence. Campinha-bacote defines cultural competence as an ongoing process where one continuously strives to work within the patient"s cultural context. As a result, one develops cultural competence, not possess it. Five components of campinha-bacote"s model of cultural competence: Cultural awareness insight into one"s own cultural background; recognizing one"s own. Cultural encounters interactions with individuals of different cultures. Motivation and commitment to developing cultural awareness, knowledge, skills, and encounters. Describe the concepts of cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity and cultural safety. Describe how these concepts are related within the process of achieving cultural safety. Cultural safety is an approach to providing care to ethnically diverse groups - provides safe care where safe is defined by the person receiving it. Cultural safety is framed in a critical social theory and postcolonial framework.
