Eating habits involving times, places, kinds of food you"re used to can affect food choices (includes cultural differences in eating customs) Food cues can trigger eating as well, even when a person does not physically need food (includes sigh, smell, past associations) Set point: natural body weight, perhaps produced by genetic factors, the body seeks to maintain. Weight loss below a person"s set point is often regained. Number of fat cells, metabolic rate may contribute to set point. Biological and psychological factors contribute, including set point, eating habits, stress levels. Anorexia nervosa: otherwise healthy persons, refuses to maintain a normal weight because of intense fear of overweight (they appear extremely thin + hair loss)
