People in a state of incongruence (rogers, 1957) Psychotherapy clients vary in: age, income, ethnicity etc, yavis: (ideal client) young, attractive, verbal, intelligent, *many people arrive to therapy and are not always ready for the change. This scale demonstrates the level that a client may be at in relation to his/ her readiness. Mr. x goes to therapy after a family intervention (precontemplation or contemplation) Psychotherapy client: who seeks tx (treatment) and who stays involved: white, middle or upper middle class, better educated, mexican and asian americans (american research) least likely to seek treatment. This does not mean that outcome is poorer among those who do not fit these characteristics. Culture not related to outcome, but cultural incompetence may underlie retention. Personality: characteristics of effective therapists during the therapy hour: ononjudgmental oempathic owarm ocaring oplace client"s needs above their own ogenuine.
