Document Summary

Identity has developed into something more important. Nature vs. nurture debate; is it natural or based on what you"re surrounded by. Becomes a political issue; if it"s natural, no one can debate it, if it"s external it is a choice so we can get rid of it and should (ex. homosexuality can be changed because it is a choice) External is we"re made to be this way, terms suggest a subjectivity and each person is involved in the shaping of their own identity. * drive theory (biology): we are born to be pleasure seeking individuals; ex. if we"re hungry we feel unpleasure and need to react to this feeling by eating so that we go back to feeling normal. * through the resolving the oedipus con ict we come to accept external social demands. We are born with crazy, un t desires. Infants don"t follow social norms but get away with it because they are young.
