SOC 502 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Radical Feminism, Role Theory, Meritocracy
Document Summary
Colonization is based of patriarchy: here the state is the patriarch. Before colonization: aboriginals were known as foraging societies, it"s a way of societal organization. Now we function from capitalism: foraging is not farming. In canada there is a lot of place to roam. So they established territorial boundaries to not over step into other tribes lands. They knew the land cannot sustain a lot of people: they were nomadic. They had to move according to seasons and hunts. They could not own a lot of stuff because it"s a liability to their ability to survive since they moved around so much. Its based off how survival worked in that era. And they thought mining was a horror. By harming mother nature it jeopardized their ability to survive: kin ordered. Each nation had 40-50 members all that are extended families. Women were the ones who picked chiefs. They chose where to move: women and children.
