They promoted the idea of the evil eye. People who were minorities were considered to be the ones who put curses on them. The church was the ones who told people what to do such as bathing more than once was suspicious. Until the late 1800, they didn"t bathe, wash clothes. This is why jews were thrown out of every european countries during 1200"s.
