Document Summary

Independent variable (iv): referred to the treatment or the intervention being used. Dependent variable (dv): the measure of the behaviour. Reversal-replication design: an experimental design consisting of baseline, then treatment, then a reversal back to baseline conditions, then replication of treatment again. Internal validity: a study or experiment that has convincingly demonstrated that the iv has caused change in the dv. External validity: finding of a study can be generalized to other behaviours, individuals, settings or treatment. An ab design with another phase added to it. Keep in mind of the researchers time, the observer"s availability, student"s restrictions, or other reasons that may limit or extend the baseline for nonscientific reasons. Keep ethical considerations in mind as well (ex: extended baseline for an individual with self harm is not acceptable). Reversal-replication design is common, but it has some limitations. #1 is it might be undesirable to reverse to baseline conditions following a treatment phase.
