Key terms: maternal health is defined as the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and in. Infant health refers to children aged 0-2 years of age. Intimate partner violence (ipv: refers to forms of violence against women and includes physical, sexual and emotional and psychological abuse an intimate partner. Ipv during pregnancy can lead to negative consequences for both the mother and baby including: maternal suicide, maternal alcohol abuse and smoking, delayed prenatal care, miscarriage and postpartum depression. In the initial phase, the dominant culture perpetrates mass trauma on a population in the form of colonialism, slavery, war or genocide. In the second phase the affected population shows physical and psychological symptoms in response to the trauma. Impact on trauma on infants (aged 0-2 years) include: sleep disruption, loss of acquired motor skills, lowered immune system, delay in developmental milestones, heightened emotional state; unresponsive to being soothed, attachment challenges with caregivers.
