NPM700 Lecture 11: Chapter 11 HR Management 2
Document Summary
Several reasons for tension between volunteers and staff . Additional challenges : hrm function left to the ed with lots of guidelines and unclear applicability. We avoid much of this by ensuring all managers have *basic* hr skills . Finding the right people for the right job is basic to all organizations. In non-profits, finding people with the right fit often has more weight than the right skills: skills can be taught, fit can not. Many non-profits make the mistake of assuming that passion = fit and together, that"s all that"s needed for the selection process: structured interviews are key for prospective staff and volunteers. Since many non-profits managers lack hr training, orientation is often non-existent. In many cases, it"s not seen as a priority. Worse yet, we expect new employees to hit the ground running with clients and that usually ends badly for many new recruits.
