Nursing HDP301 Lecture 6: 6 Wound Healing
Document Summary
This process ,occurring soon after an initial injury, begins with the formation of a clot from blood released from broken blood vessels [hemostasis or clotting. This closes the wound site and prevents any further microorganism entry. It also provides the initial matrix for repair to occur. Within a day first neutrophils and then later macrophages enter the site and begin to clean up any damaged tissue and control any microorganisms that entered the wound. [ inflammatory phase] while the clot begins the process of self dissolution. Then new blood vessels begin to grow into the site from adjacent vessels (neovascularization) and fibroblasts migrate to the site. The fibroblasts begin building collagen and establishing a connective tissue framework in the wound site. This new tissue below the scab is referred to as granulation tissue- it appears more pinkish and larger than the original tissue and the blood vessels are more fragile and easily damaged.
