The ability to rearrange a collection of matter. Work is not energy. the energy change that is associated with any work is considered energy. Food is not energy. food could be consumed and the energy could never be totally consumed. Potential energy: stored energy in stationary systems. allows something to happen later on. Kinetic energy: light (movement of photons), heat (movement of molecules), electricity (movement of electrically charged particles), kinetic (movement of large objects) Chemical: energy stored in the bonds between atoms. Positional: energy stored in a non moving object. Person pushing rock up the hill and once rock reaches hill it will start picking up speed and roll to the other side. As rock is being pushed uphill the potential energy of the rock is increasing. Right side: there is kinetic energy now that comes from the potential energy of the rock that converts to kinetic energy. Elastic potential converted to kinetic energy: road runner using spring.
