Document Summary

In cell divsion, dna replication is an important component. 1953, james watson and francis crick, received nobel price rosalind franklin plays an important roll bc found the diameter (2nm) Phosphate group, 5-carbon sugar, nitrogenous base prime (") the diff. between rna and dna. Nitrogenous bases: dna has cgat while rna has cgau. Dna is double stranded while rna is single stranded nucletoides (via condensation) polymerise to from nucleic acids. ***nucelic acid chains have a 5" and a 3" end. Nucelotides can only be added to the 3" end. Replication: strand seperates, each strand acts as a template, now with 2 daughter dna molecules consisting of half the parent and half new strand. There are many origins of replication on dna strands in eukaryoitc chromosomes the start where replicaiton is initiated move towards the replication fork. Dna rep. seems so complicated bc of the leading and lagging strand! solution to ficing lagging strand is to make in short fragments moving back.
