Biota play an enormous role in nutrient availability to plants in nearly all ecosystems. Biota = the animal and plant life of a particular region. Shown by the addition of n not affecting growth. Adenostema is not p limiting, but it is n limiting (as indicated by the increased growth with the addition of n) The annuals had growth with n but when both p and n were added, the growth increased immensely. Key physical processes regulate the rates and locations of nutrient cycling in different ecosystems. Ecosystems differ dramatically in their nutrient cycling characteristics.
